C. 20555 Subj ec t: Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Technical Specification Amendment Diesel Generator Testin2 Requirements This letter contains a proposed amendment to the Technical Specifications for Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-35 and NPF-52 for Catawba Units 1 and 2. The request involves the changing of reporting requirements for diesel generators and the method of counting failures to determine testing frequency for Diesel Generator 1A.

These amendments will allow reporting failurts on a per diesel generator basis and will allow diesel generator 1A (D/G 1A) to be tested on an once every 31 days frequency.

The requested amendments are very similar to those granted The Clevelarid Elcetric Illuminating Company for Perry Nuclear Pcver Plant (Docket No. 50-440) May 18, 1988.

The attachment contains the preposed changes and a discussion of the justification and a Ne Significant Hazards Analysis. The analysis is included pursuant to 10CFR50.01 and it has been concluded the proposed amendment does not involve significant hazards considerations.

Tnis proposal involves one amendment request to Catawba's Technical ,

Specifications. Accordingly, pursuant to 10 CFR 170.21 a check for $150.00 is 1 enclosed.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91 (b) (1) the appropriate South Carolina Official is being provided a copy of this amendment request.
