Dear Mr. Barry:

As ycu are aware, the NRC is in the process of forming its final views regarding the readiness of Boston Edison to return the Pilgrim facility to operation. As part of that process, Region i recently completed an Integrated Assessment Team Inspection (I ATI) in late August, the Advisory Cemittee on Reactor Safeguards has revir.wed the readiness of Pilgrim and the NRC is holding a local public meeting in Plyrrouth on September 29, 1988 to review the proposed restart.

The Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Dr. Thonas E. Purley, has scheduled a public reeting in Rockville on October 5,1988 to further discuss the readiness status cf Pilgrim. As discussed between Dan Mcdonald of try staff and trerbers of your staff on September 26, 1983, you (or your representative) are invited to 6ttend and provide the Com onwealth's views regarding Pilgrim readiness. I have enclosed a notice for this public treeting.

Attached to the treeting notice is the agenda for the treeting. As you will note, time has becn allccated for a representative of the Comonwealth to provide coments, Please inform Mr. Daniel G. Mcdonald, the Pilgrim Prcject Manager, if the Comonwealth plans to be represented at the reeting and who the representative (s) will be.
