Dear Mr. Murley:
In Reference (a), Commonwealth Edison requested a license amendment and associated Technical Specification changes which are needed as a result of Commonwealth Edison's plan to initiate a Hydrogen Water Chemistry (HWC) program at its Quad Cities Station Units 1 and 2.
In support of that change, we are transmitting the following additional information:

Attachment At Report titled "HWC Installation Report for knendment to the Facility Operating License" dated May 16,

Attachment B Report titled "HWC Installation Compliance with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Guidelines for Permanent BWR Hydrogen Water Chemistry Installation, September 1987 Revision."

Attachment C Draft Copy of Proposed Changes to Updated FSAR as a Result of HWC Addition at Quad Cities Station.
Reference (b) provides NRR's review and approval of the EPRI Guidelines / Topical Report for the application of HWC at a Nuclear Power Plant.
Attachment B describes how the Quad Cities HWC Program complies with the NRC approval EPRI Guidelines / Topical Report.

T.E. Murley September 28, 1988 Attachment C provides a draft copy of proposed changes to the Updated FSAR which are being made as a result of the Hydrogen Addition Program.
Specifically, changes are being made to three sections of the UFSAR as follows:
i (a) UFSAR Amendment for Subsection 7.6.2.6, "Main titeamline Radiation Monitoring Subsystem."
- These changes reflect the Technical Specification increase in the Main Steamline Radiation Mon. tors setroint 8
(b) Proposed new UFSAR Section 10.17 entitled, "Hydrogen Water Chemistry System".
- This new section describes the Hydrogen Water Chemistry System.
(c) UFSAR amendment to Subsection 14.2.1, "Control Rod Drop".
- These changes reflect the Technical Specification increase in the Main Steam 11ne Radiation Monitors setpoint.
However, these 1
changes have recieved approval for the license emendment sought in Reference (a),
i.e.,
the new setpoints.
The changes will be included in the June 30, 1989 Updated to the FSAR.
