SUMMARY

This refers to the nanagement meeting conducted at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Chattanooga headquarters on February 21, 1986. The meeting was held to discuss the corrective actions planned by TVA to improve the effectivness of licensed operator training at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. The need for this improvement was indicated by the evaluation of the Brown's Ferry Requalification Training Program (Examination Report 50-259/0L-85-03).

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice", Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

Subject:

Browns Ferry Requalification Training Program On February 21, 1986, representatives of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) met with the NRC at TVA offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mr. R. G. Jones of the Browns Ferry Training Department made a presentation outlining the proposed action plan which TVA has developed to upgrade the knowledge, skills and abilities of its licensed operators. The details of the plan, including tentative schedules for implementation, are attached to this summary.

NRC representatives stated that Browns Ferry licensed operators would be j reexamined by the NRC upon completion of this remedial training program.

j As a minimum, all personnel who failed the NRC-administered Requalification

, Exam, plus a sample of the remedial training program participants would be i examined. TVA was requested to respond to Examination Report 50-259/0L-85-03 and propose dates for reexamination. All licensed personnel would be required to participate in the training; those who had successfully completed an NRC exam within twelve months of completing the remedial program would be subject to exemption from additional NRC evaluation.
