Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 & 2 Bolt Samples obtained During Procurement Inspection Conducted May 11-22, 1987 As described in Alabama Power Company's letter of May 23, 1988, the chromium content in bolt samples S0-18, SO-19, S0-20 and S0-21 and the carbon content in sample S0-18 were to be confirmed by an independent laboratory. 'Ihi s confirmation was to be obtained prior to determining any corrective action.

Attached as Table I are the results of the check analyses of these bolts by PTL Inspectorate, Inc. as well as thosa reported by the Brookhaven National Laboratory in the NRC's letter dated April 21, 1988. Based on the confirmation by PTL, the chromium content of these bolts is within the standard specification requirements of 0.751, to 1.20%; however, the carbon content for sample 50-18 is below minimum requirements. On this basis samples 50-19, S0-20 and S0-21 are considered satisfactory.

A final report on any corrective actions that are necessary for bolt S0-18 will be submitted to the NRC by July 22, 1988.
