McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Technical Specification Bases for RVI.IS Centlemen:
By letter dated June 30, 1987 Duke Power, provided the NRC with Technical Specification Bases for the Reactor Vessel Level Indication System (RVLIS).
By subsequent letter dated May 4,
1988 Duke proposed amendments for the McGuire and Catawba Nuclear Station Technical Specifications to relocate requirements for accident monitoring instrumentation not associated with Type A variables in Regulatory Guide 1.97 from the Technical Specifications to the FSARs.
l Mr. D.B. Ma t thews' (NRC) letter to Mr. H.B. Tucker (Duke Power) dated May 19, 1988 indicated the NRC staff's intention to take no further action.
The staff I
indicated that since Duke's May 4,1988 pros osal would have deleted the Bases l
for the RVLIS, it would be interpreted as withdrawing Duke's June 30, 1987 letter. This was not Duke Power's intention.
l The June 30, 1987 letter provided Bases for the RVLIS to be incorporated into the existing Bases section.
The Bases provide information to the user to fully clarify the Technical Specification requirenents and the reasons behind the requirements.
These Bases should rema.ic ' in place until such time as Technical Specification requirements for the RVLIS are deleted.
