gg 2 81986 Docket No. 50 409 Mr. James W. Taylor General Manager Dairyland Power Cooperative 2615 East Avenue South La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601

Dear Mr. Taylor:

Subject:

VENTILATION ISOLATION VALVE DERRIS SCREENS (TAC 58019)

Re:

La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor By letter dated April 30, 1984, we informed you that installation of debris screens for the protection of ventilation isolation valves was reautred to be i

in full compliance with Branch Technical Position (BTP) CSB-6-4 We also

'recuested you to provide us an installation schedule for the debris screens.

Pursuant to our request, you responded by letter dated June 5, 1984 and committed to install debris screens in the round ventilation ducts during the March / April 1986 refueling outage.

You stated that the debris screens will be added on the containment building side of the intake and exhaust ventilation isolation valves, and that loading from LOCA differential pressure will be considered in the design and attachment of the debris screens.

i The staff has reviewed the debris screen installation proposal and finds it acceptable. This completes the staff's action on this item.

Seismic design consideration of the debris screen installation is pending the results of the consequence study (part of the Systematic Evaluation Program).

The study will determine whether the screens must be seismically desianed.

Further action on this issue will be taken when we report on the consequence study.
