Subject: Inspection No. 50-225/88-03

A routine safety inspection of your emergency preparedness program was con-

ducted by Mr. C. Amato of this office on August 12, 1988 at the Rensselaer

Polytechnic Institutes Reactor Critical Facility located within the L. David

Walthousen Laboratory, Schenectady, New York. Discussions of our findings were

held by Mr. Amato with the Facility Director and other members of the staff at

the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I

inspection report which is enclosed. Within these areas, the inspection

consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative records,

interviews with personnel and observations made by the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified. No reply

to this letter is .equired. Your cooperation with us in this matter is

appreciated.
