Gentlemen:

Subject: Resident Inspection 50-213/88-08 (4/5/88 - 5/16/88)

This transmits the findings of the routine NRC inspection conducted by Mr.

J. T. Shediosky and Ms. A. A. Asars of the Haddam Neck Plant. These findings

have been discussed with Mr. D. B. Miller of your staff.

No violations were identified during this inspection and no reply to this letter

is required.

During this inspection, the inspectors performed close-out reviews of several

long-standing issues; including Natural Circulation Cooldown and Pressure Isolation

Valves. These reviews necessitated extensive searches of Nuclear Records and in-

terviews with station personnel. The inspectors found station personnel knowledge-

able and helpful during the course of these inspections. ,

Thank you for your April 18, 1988 letter, as requested by NRC Inspection Repcrt

50-213/88-01, which describes corrective actions taken for a violation identified

during surveillance testing. We have also received your response, dated May 6,

1988, to violations identified in Environmental Qualification as described in NRC

'

Inspection Report 50-213/87-28. These matters will be reviewed during future in-

spections. ,

Your cooperation with us is appreciated.

!

j Sincerely,

I
