Commonwealth Edison LaS3!!e County Nuclear Stahon Rural Route #1, Box 220 Marseilles, Illinois 61341 Telephono 815/357 6761 September 21, 1988 Mr. A. B. Davis Region III Administrator U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Corrsnission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellya, Illinois 60137 Dear Sir This special report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 2 Operating License, NPT-18, Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.7.6 and 6.6.C.

On August 17, 1988 at 1630 hours0.0189 days
0.453 hours
0.0027 weeks
6.20215e-4 months
, fire door 615 (rolling steel door - 731' Auxiliary Building) was blocked open to provide adequate space for the temporary set up of test equipment. The test equipnent was necessary for raonitoring Jet Pump and Reactor Recirculation Flow parameters.

4 Fire door 615 was inoperable for greater than seven (7) days and therefore exceeded the 1 day period allowed by Technical Specification 3.7.6 prior to requiring a Special Report.

To assure that the level of fire protection did not decrease during the course of this event, LaSalle met the requirements of Action Statem?nt "a" of Technical Specificatica 3.7.6 by verifying the operability of the fire detectors on at least one side of the inoperable assembly and establishing an hourly fire watch patrol.

In response to this event the Instrument Maintenance Department made and installed longer terminal leads which allowed for the relocation of the test equipment.

Immediately after this, on September 1, 1988 at 1500 hours0.0174 days
0.417 hours
0.00248 weeks
5.7075e-4 months
, fire door 615 was returned to operable status.
