The NRC will perform an independent verification inspection during the period  !

October 17-28, 1988, at the Fort Calhoun Station using the NRC Mobile NondestructiveExamination(NDE)trailerandteam.

The scope of this inspection will include plant rodifications and inservice '

inspection verification. The modification welds will be reinspected by the NRC NDE personnel using various NDE methods including radiography. We ,

anticipate we will require 4 to 6 hours6.944444e-5 days <br />0.00167 hours <br />9.920635e-6 weeks <br />2.283e-6 months <br /> cach night of access to perform ,

radiography. During the performance of radiography, we will require restricted personnel access for radiological safety purpose. The NRC NDE team will work closely with the licensee staff to develop a work schedule that will minimize our impact on the licensee's schedule. (See Attachment for supplemental information).

The evaluation of examination results and preparation of an inspection report will be completed and the results of the inspection will be transmitted to you through the standard NRC inspection report.

C e ATTACHMENT SUPPLEMENTAL NDE TRAILER INFORMATION

1. NDE 1 caller Support Requirements We request that the NRC-NDE 26-foot trailer be positioned as near as practicable to the containment area entrance to facilitate the performance of inspections,
a. The trailer requires the following connections while sited at your facility:

- Site water with a garden hose connection - this water is for t film rinse.

- Requirement for film rinse water drain (continual). No

, chemical disposal will occur from the trailer without arior concurrence from appropriate licensee personnel. At t1e end of the independent inspection, the NRC needs to dispose of the film developing chemicals prior to moving the trailer from the site, i - Two 30 amp,110 volt circuits are required for operation of the

trailer.  ;

b. The trailer will contain PT and MT approved materials. The team will i j need two rolls of your chemically approved tape and two approved rarkers for identifying welds and marking weld areas.

! c. It will be necessary for you to remove the paint, rust or other j material that could interfere with PT or MT on the selected welds.

i Also, we will need scaffolding erected and insulation removed for  ;

2. Administrative Information
a. The radiation source will be a nominal 100 curie IR-192 source. .

This source is licensed and owned by the NRC contractor. l

l b. The names of participating personnel in the NDE inspection will be i supplied to you by Region I. Clearance for these personnel is necessary.

c. We request that you hold a mini-radiation safety training course for the NRC NDE personnel. This course should familiarize the personnel with your facility and procedures and should not exceed I hour in length, i d. A camera site pass will be needed for a Canon AE-1, 35 m, camera.

e. The NDE personnel will be using 5 watt Motorola radios on the site; j the frequency used by the NRC is 165.6625 MH,,
