Subject: Corrbined Inspection Report Nos. 50-272/86-02; 50-311/86-02
A routine safety inspection was conducted by R. Struckmeyer and M. Kramaric
of this office on February 10-14, 1986, of activities related to your radio-
logical analyses and measurements program at the Salem Nuclear Generating
Station.
Areas examined during this inspection included your capability for analyzing
radioactive effluents, and your ability to achieve and maintain comparable
methods of analysis between your facility and the NRC. Our inspector performed
independent measurements of your samples using the NRC-Regional Mobile Labora-
tory Facility.
A generally effective program for liquid and gaseous effluent control is
being carried out; however there is a need for improvement in radiochemical
laboratory quality control.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.

is appreciated.
