SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 60-446 CONTROL ROOM HVAC SDAR: CP-84-029 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On November 5,1984. TV Electric's letter logged TXX-4350, notified you of a reportable deficiency involving the safe shutdown analysis evaluations which did not consider a potential fire which could affect habitability of the control room and alternate shutdown capability. The last report was logged TXX-88362, dated June 6, 1988. The purpose of this report is to provide 1 additional information regarding the reportability of this issue.

When this SDAR was initiated.the Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis (FSSA) credited a i Train A shutdown for a fire in the Train B HVAC room and a Train B shutdown  ;

for a fire in the Train A HVAC room. The SDAR was initiated because the HVAC ,

duct work did not adequately separate the Train A and Train B rooms so that a fire involving one train could possibly affect the other train and consequently affect control room habitability.

l The FSSA has been subsequently revised to indicate that a postulated fire in l any of the Control Room HVAC rooms will take credit for an alternate shutdonn using the remote shutdown panel. As part of this revision it was confirmed that the Control Room HVAC rooms did not contain any equipment required for an alternate shutdown. i

Page 2 of 2 in the event this condition had remained undetected, the uninhabitable control room would have resulted in control room evacuation and shutdown from the remote shutdown panel. The subsequent evaluations have confirmed that no circuits required for remote shutdown are located in these areas. Therefore, this issue is not reportable, and no physical work or modification to the plant is required.
