SUBJECT:

PARTIAL WITHDRAWAL 0F LICENSE AMENDPENT REQUEST FOR RIVER BEND STATION, UNIT 1 By letter dated May 13, 1988, Gulf States Utilities (GSU) requested that portions of Attachment 3 to the June 5,1987 atendment application be withdrawn. The proposed Technical Specification (TS) changes to be withdrawn are items 2.h.1 and 2.h.2 of TS Table 3.3.2-2. The proposed changes would raise the isolation actuation instrumentation setpoints for the south main steam tunnel temperature and differential temperature monitors.

The Comission has granted the withdrawal request and has filed the enclosed "Partial Withdrawal of Application for Amendment to Facility Operating License" with the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

During the review of this amendment request, the staff has identified issues relating to the south main steam tur.nel that are being evaluated for potential generic implications. Any need for additional information in this regard will be addressed by separate correspondence.
