The purpose of this letter is to notify you of a recent action taken by t.he Southeast Compa:t Comission and to request your assistance in natifyfag t,he appropriate persons.
on January 17, 1966 the Comiss1on p1sted a lief ted ban on the exportation
,ef low-level radioactive waste generated in the Southeast Conpsct party states.
Yffective March 1,1996, waste must not be exported outside the region for dfsposal if (1) f t weets the Ifeensing regaf rements of the rigfonal facilf ty (fternwell) or (2) it could meet such requirent.nts through processing by available methods.
Please assist us in notifying the appropef ate persons regarding this new polfey.
We have asked the ef g'it state ap!nefes responsible for licensing the use of radfonctive poterials in the ergton to inform their pnerators of Tow-level radicartive waste.
A similar reqJest was also made of Chen-helear Systems, Inc.
