BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL i
INFORMATION-SAFETY PARAMETER DISPLAY SYSTEM (GPDS)
TVA was requested to provide detailed In' formation on the human factors program and hardware isolation features associated with the SPDS.
The availability of this information is directly dependent on the implettntation schedule of the SPDS.
The schedule has changed due to the extended outage of the EFN units.
The following discussion is to clarify our previous commitments made in an April 8. 1987 letter.
The new unit 2 process computer with SPDS ccpability l
will be inctalled during the cycle 6 refueling outage.
Following functional I
testing the SPDS will become operational dLring cycle 7 operation.
The SPDS
]
for units 1 and 3 will be installed before restart of the respective units.
Per discussion with D. Horan and G. Gears of your staff it was decided that it was not necessary for BFN to submit our functional specification and e
preliminary teplementation schedule for SPDS.
The staff Indicated that the primry concern is that the subject information be available for review as soon as.t becomes available.
The current schedule for selectlM a vendor is early 1989.
TVA will contact NRC within three months of vendor selection to schedule a meeting to review i
i the human factors program and hardware isolation featt, res of the SPDS.
Summary statements of commitments contained in this submittal are provided in enclosure 1.
