Your April 15, 1988 and May 5. 1988 submittals requested approval to utilize a short duration containment Integrated Leakage Rate Test (ILRT) (Type A.

Periodic). The short duration test would be perforced in accordance with Bechtel Topical Report BN. TOP.1, Revision 1, dated Noverber 1. 1972, "Testing l
Criteria for Integrated Leakage Rate Testing of Primary Containment Structures l
for Nuclear Power Plants." You also stated that the test would conform to Technical Specifications,10 CFR Part 50. Appendix J. and ANSI N45.4-1972.

snort duration ILRT at the V. C. Summer Nuclear Statien as described in your submittals. We will address your request for an Exerption from 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix J, Paragraph Ill.A.3, to use the mass point technique at a later date.
