VINGINIA ELECTRIC AND Powna COMPANY H rcnwown, Vrmo NIA 20261 September 16, 1988 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Serial No.88-389 Document Control Desk PES /ISI/DJF Washington, D.C.
20555 Docket No. 50-338 50-339 License No. NPF-4 NPF-7 Gentlemen:
VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 PUMP AND VALVE INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM RE0 VEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Your letter of June 9,1988 (TAC N0. 52414) provided an interim evaluation of the Pump and Valve Inservice Testtag Program for North Anna Units 1 and 2 and requested that additional information on certain aspects of the program be provided within 120 days.
We are not able to provide our r sponse on the schedule requested for the reasons stated below, and therefore, we are requesting an extension to January 16, 1989.
This request was discussed with the NRC Project Manager on August 22, 1988, and it is our understanding that this schedule is acceptable.
We are presently preparing a response to a similar request for 6dditional information on our programs for Inservice Testing of Pumps and Valves and Inservice Inspection for Surry Units 1 and 2.
The response to the Surry reouest is due on September 30, 1988, one week prior to the due date for the N0rth Anna response. However, due to manpower limitations, we are not able to respond to both requests simultaneously.
In addition, information used in the Surry response will be factored into the response for North Anna on issues that are generic to pump and valve testing.
Therefore, it is desirable to complete the Surry response before preparing the North Anna response.
We have reviewed the NRC's questions and comments on the North Anna program and, at this time, find no impact on the upcoming North Anna Unit I and 2 outages.
