Reference:

Summary of Meeting With Philadelphia Electric Company Concerning Shroud Head Bolt Cracks and RHR Wear Ring Cracks, Gerald E. Gears, NRC to Philadelphia Electric Company, dated January 14, 1986 Dear Mr. Muller l

l On December 19, 1985, representatives of Philadelphia j Electric Company met with the NRC staf f in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss, in part, intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) of residual heat removal (RHR) pump wear rings. The NRC staf f l

requested that we present our findings concerning the IGSCC l cracks on the RHR pump wear rings. Detailed metallurgical l

examination of the Unit 3 'A' and 'C' RHR pump wear rings has been completed and the laboratory report is attached.

[ Since the meeting, the Unit 2 'B' RHR pump has been

! disassembled and inspected for cracked wear rings (on January 28, 1986). No crack indications were visually found. The impeller previously removed from the Unit 3 'A' RHR pump was installed in the Unit 2 'B' RHR pump with new impeller wear rings. The casing wear rings were replaced as well. This completes the installation of new wear rings in all eight of the Peach Bottom RHR pumps. [ [
