Dockets: 50-445 5G-446 TV Electric ATTN:

Mr. W, G. Counsil Executive Vice President 400 North Olive, L.B. 81 Dallas, Texas 75201 Gentlemen:

This refers to a telephone conversation between Mr. A. Armstrong of your staff and Dr. J. B. Nicholas of this office on August 18, 1988, regarding the specific utility and operating requirements for the use of the NRC Region IV mobile laboratory at the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station.

It is our understanding that support facilities will be established at the Nuclear Operations Support Facility (NOSF) and the near-site NOSF in the city of Granbury, Texas, collocated with the State of Texas mobile laboratory site for use during emergency res, nonse activities and within the plant protected area for use during routine radiochemistry confirmators measurements inspections.

The following data is presented for your information:

The NRC Region IV mobile laboratory consists of a 1-ton pickup towing vehicle and a 'ifth wheel trailer.

The pickup is a blue Chevrolet 1-ton crew cab pickup with dual rear wheels.

The license tag is a U.S. government plate with identification number NRC-110.

Mounted on the edge of the driver's door and at the lower left edge of the wint:hield is the vehicle identification plate.

The truck vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GCHR33N6HS161390. The fifth wheel trailer is 28 feet long, 8 feet wide, and requires a clearance of 10 feet.

The trailer exterior is white aluminum displaying the US NRC logo on the rear and both sides.

The lettering "REGION IV MOBILE LABORATORY" is displayed on both sides under the logo.

The trailer identification plate is mounted on the left side of the trailer near the front. The trailer VIN is 1EP4V2827H1000256.

The U.S. government license plate number for the trailer is NRC-118.

It is requested that parking space for the mobile laboratory be provided for the fifth wheel trailt.t at the respective emergency response sites and inside the plant protected area.

These parking areas should be as follows:

1.

The parking location should be on a level concrete slab in an area away from overhead electrical transmission lines.

Electrical power should be provided to the mobile laboratory through a 220 volt 50 ampere circuit connected to an environmentally protected standard range receptacle for easy plug-in within 50 feet of the parked mobile laboratory.

3.

Two telephone lines equipped with modular jacks should be provided at each of the mobile laboratory parking sites.

4.

The parking area within the plant protected area should have easy access to the plant's radiochemistry laboratory and counting facilities for ease of transporting radioactive samples to and from the mobile laboratory during routine radiochemistry confirmatory measurements inspections.

If you have any questions concerning the installation of the electrical and telephone connections, please contact Dr. J. B. Nicholas at (817) 860-8189.
