SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No.

50-266 Unit Name Point Beach Unit 1 Date May 3, 1988 Completed By C. W.

Kre'Ise Telephone 414/221-2001 On April 4, 1988, the unit surpassed 57 billion KW hours.

At 7:00 p.m. on April 8th, a normal power reduction commenced as scheduled for the annual refueling and maintenance outage.

The generator was taken off line at 2:22 a.m. on April 9th, and cold shutdown was reached at 5:46 p.m. on April loth.

Major outage related work includes the five year inspection of the main electrical generator, the changing of one phase of the main step up transformer, and minor modifications to the steam generators.

Safety related maintenance performed during the period includes replacement of environmentally qualified electrical splicing on solenoid operated valves, and inspection and maintenance of SI accumulator check valve SI-842A.

On April 15, 1988, during type "C" leak rate testing, the "A"

reactor coolant pump component cooling water supply line check valve leak rate exceeded the containment leak rate allowed by Technical Specifications.

As a result, LER 88-004 will be issued.

On April 28, in preparation for rod latching, the containment purge supply and exhaust valves were tested as required by Technical Specifications.

During the test it was discovered that the auto-close on high radiation signal was inoperable.

It was determined that this signal was inoperable for approximately 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
.

As a result, LER 88-005 will be issued.

Krause Telephone 414/221-2001 Unit 2 operated at approximately 496 MWe net through most of the period.

At 9:04 a.m. on April 7, 1988, a reactor trip occurred.

The trip occurred while shifting instrument power supplies when two inverters temporarily operated in parallel due to inadequate mechanical linkage. As a result, LER 88-001 will be issued.

Unit 2 was brought back to criticality by 8:29 a.m. on April 8.

Unit 2 generator was brought on line at 8:43 a.m.

During return to power, separation between the valve stem and disk was discovered on main feed pump discharge valve 2MOV-2189.

Power was then held at 54% of full power for approximately 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
while this condition was investigated, during which time Unit 2 generation surpassed 57 billion kW hours.

At 9:36 p.m. on April 9, Unit 2 load reduction commenced to facilitate repairs to 2MOV-2189.

At 1:52 a.m. on April 10, Unit 2 was taken off line for approximately 39 hours4.513889e-4 days
0.0108 hours
6.448413e-5 weeks
1.48395e-5 months
while 2MOV-2189 was repaired.
