Dear Mr..Beasley:
On August 15. 1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Vogtle Units 1 and
'2 reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that
,
inspection.
During the 7-week period, your conduct of activities at the Vogtle facility
!
was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound engineering
'
and maintenance practices, and appropriate radiological work controls.
Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that three
j
violations'of NRC requirements occurred. The violations are cited in the
enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances surrounding them
are described in the subject inspection report.
One violation involved
-
failure to im)1ement adequate corrective actions for repeated failures to
'
enter applica)1e Technical Specification Limiting Conditions for Operation.
The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the
violations, the corrective actions taken and planned to correct each violation
and prevent recurrence is already adequately addressed in this inspection
report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to this letter unless the
- description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or
.your position.
In that case. or if you choose to provide additional
information, you should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed
Notice.
