4 Deckat No. 5 0-3 52 Attachment to Monthly Operating Report for December, 19 85

(

1 Limerick Generating Station Unit 1 December 1 through December 31, 1985 I

I I.

Narrative Summary of Operating Experiences The unit began the month at approximately 70% power.

t On December 5, at 95% power, excessive isophase bus duct temperatures were discovered and power was reduced to 68%.

On December 8, the "B" Recirculation Pump speed demand meter was observed.to be of f-scale (reading low).

After locking up the scoop tube for inves tigation, the scoop tube lock was reset, resulting in a rapid speed increase, d

causing an Average Power Range Monitor ( APRM) Hi Flux i

i Scram.

With the generator of f-line, isophase bus duct j

minor modifications were completed including installation f

.. s -

I of temporary cooling f ans.

l, Unit startup began on December 9 and the turbine-generator was synchronized the same day.

On December 12, power was i

increased incrementally to monitor bus duct temperatur es.

At 82% power, the maximum bus duct temperatures were l

observed and power was immediately reduced to and maintained at 70% pending new bus duct installation.

Docket No. 50-352 i

Attachment to Monthly J

Operating Report for i

December, 1985

}

Page 2 Ilj On December 18, power was increased to 914 briefly to

(

j support the full Main Steam Isolation valve (MSIV) closure (Startup Procedure 25-3).

This resulted in an anticipated

{

scram.

Startup recommenced on December 19.

Power was maintained at 10-15% on bypass valves while the new portions of isophase bus duct were installed.

On December 22, the l

turbine-generator was synchronized and power ascension to

~

954 began.

After setting the recirculation pump motor / generator set scoop tube electrical and mechanical

[

stops, reactor power was increased to 1004 (3291 MWt, 1114 MWe) on Deqember 26, 1985.

The unit ended the report period at approximately 98%

power.

II.

Challenges to Relief Valves During this month, there were no challenges to the main steam system safety-relief valves.
