Subject: NRC Region I Inspection Report No. 50-29/88-05
This refers to the routine resident safety inspection conducted- by
Mr. H. Eichenholz and Mrs. C. Carpenter of this office on February 23 -
March 31, 1988 at the Yankee Nuclear Power Station, Rowe, Massachusetts. The
inspection consisted of observations of activities, interviews with personnel,
independent measurements and document reviews. The results of the inspection
are described in the NRC Region I inspection report enclosed with this letter
and were discussed with Mr. N. St. Laurent of your staff at the conclusion of
the inspection.
Also, this refers to your letter dated March 14, 1988, in response to our
letter dated February 12, 1988, concerning the f ailure to notify the NRC, as
required by 10 CFR 50.72(b)(1)(A), within one hour of the initiation of a plant
shutdown required by Technical Specifications. Thank you for informing us of
the corrective and preventive actions documented in your letter. These actions
will be examined during a future inspection of your licensed program.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
