. Amendment Request for the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station.
In preparation for the upcoming refueling outage scheduled to begin on September 26,1998, GPUN has identified an unreviewed safety question as defined in 10 CFR 50.59(a)(2). Outage contingency plans have been developed to perform maintenance on valve V-16 63 if unacceptable leakage is discovered during the course of the outage. The proposed activity involves isolating the Reactor Water Cleanup System from the Reactor Pressure Vessel by means of a temporary freeze seal. The proposed activity constitutes an unreviewed safety.
question in that it introduces a malfunction of a different type than has been previously evaluated in OCNGS Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR). Accordingly, the purpose of this License Amendment Request is to revise Section 5.4.8 of the OCNGS UFSAR such that it

boundary. In order to support the upcoming refueling outage, GPUN requests that if the request is approved,' an implementation date of October 7,1998 be assigned.

evaluated under the criteria of 10 CFR 50.92.
