Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369, -370 Proposed Technical Specification Revision Technical Specification 3/4.7.13, Groundwater Level Gentlemen On October 31, 1984, Duke submitted to the NRC a proposed revision to the McGuire Groundwater Level Technical Specification.

As a result of NRC questions concerr.-

ing the submittal, Duke submitted to NRC supplemental information on July 15, 1985.

Subsequently, Duke and NRC met at McGuire to address additional NRC con-cerns on July 9, 1987. Subsequently a proposed revision was developed based on previous Duke proposals and concerns raised by your staff and was to be submitted in February 1988.

However, a problem with one of McGuire's groundwater monitor wells occurred.

Duke discussed this problem with NRC Region II and received per-mission to continue operation with alternate monitoring of groundwater in that area based on design analysis and an operability statement. On January 27,1988 a proposed Technical Specification revision was subpitted to NRC encompassing all previous concerns.

Subsequently on April 12, 1988, Mr. D. Hood and two technical reviewers visited the McGuire site to view the groundwater monitoring system and the affected structures involved in the specification revision. On April 13, 1988 the aforementioned NRC Staff met with Duke representatives to discuss the basis and calculations for the proposed revision.

During that meeting several wording cht.nges with respect to Technical Specification Table 3.7-7 ed t.he Groundwater Level Bases 3/4.7.13 were agreed upon.

Thereferc, please find attached the re-vised portions ao discussed.

The aforementioned submittal of October 31, 1984 included an application fee of

$150.00 pursuant to 10CFR 170.21; therefore, an application fee is not required.

Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact S.E. LeRoy at (704) 373-6233.
