Iowa Department of Public Health Lucas State Office. Building Des Moines, Iowa 50319-0075
Dear Mr. Eure:
1 im pleased to learn of your appointment by Governor Branstad as the liaison officer to the NRC for Iowa.
As Director of State, local and Indian Tribe Programs under the Office of Governmental and Public Affairs, I plan to continue to strengthen NRC's program of cooperation and liaison with the States.
The NRC looks to the Governor-appointed State Liaison Officers to provide a comunication channel between the States and the NRC; to be the key person in the State to keep the Governor completely infortned on regulatory, radiological public health and safety or otner matters of interest to the Governor; to keep other officials within the State informed on regulatory and public health and safety matters as appropriate to their interests and/or responsibilities; and to provide NRC with answers to questions posed to the States on particular issues.
We are placing you on a special mailing list so that on a regular basis you will receive copies of appropriate NRC documents and reports to keep you infortned of all matters that may impact on States. Also, on a periodic basis we will conduct both regional and national State liaison Officers' meetings to discuss matters of mutual regulatory interest.
Roland Lickus, our Regional State Liaison Officer in the NRC Region III office located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, will be your main contact for routine comunications (312-790-5666). In the event of his unavailability, please do not hesitate to call me at headquarters at 301 492-0321, or Mindy Landau of my staff at 301-492-0308, concerning questions or problems you may have now or in the future.
