Docket: 50-285/85-26

Omaha Public Power District

ATTN: R. L. Andrews, Division Manager-

Nuclear Production

1623 Harney Street

Omaha, Nebraska 68102

Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. A. R. Johnson and D. E. Norman

of this office during the period November 18-22, 1985, of activities authorized

by NRC Operating License DPR-40 for Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1 and to the

discussions of our findings with you and other members of your staff at the

conclusion of the inspection. Discussions with you at a meeting in Region IV,

Arlington, Texas, on December 13, 1985, are also included.

Areas examined during the inspection included actions you have taken with regard

to six previously identified apparent violations or unresolved items, and two

open items, of NRC Inspection Report 50-285/85-09. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examination of-procedures and representative

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors. Four of

these apparent violations remained open pending further licensee action and NRC

review. One new unresolved item was identified regarding your apparent failure

to take the appropriate corrective actions, associated with the premature need

for repair of a safety-related motor, as a result of high inlet piping vibration.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were identified.

Our Confirmatory Action Letter (50-285/ CAL 85-07), dated December 20, 1985,

identified the corrective actions which, at that time, were yet to be completed

in connection with the deficiencies identified in NRC Inspection .

Report 50-285/85-09. These corrective actions are discussed in detail in the

enclosed inspection report. Based on our inspection activities and your letter

dated January 11, 1986, we now consider the corrective actions in CAL 85-07 to

be complete. ,As stated in our letter dated January 17, 1986, we plan additional

followup on your corrective actions during further inspections.

Any potential enforcement actions associated with the apparent violations

identified in NRC Inspection Report 50-285/85-09 will be transmitted to you

.under separate cover.
