SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 FLOODING CONCERNS SDAR:

CP-84-17 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On August 16, 1984, in our report logged TXX-4263, we notified you of a deficiency regarding our flooding analysis, which did not address backflooding via drain system piping.

This item was subsequently identified by our letter logged TXX-6435, dated May 13, 1987 as an item for which a final report had been issued. However, the corrective actions require revision.

This report is submitted to status the implementation of corrective actions.

The original deficient condition was identified in TXX-4263 as backflooding from Room 113 into Rooms 115A,B,C and 0 in the Electrical and Controls Building.

Backflooding in these rooms has been reduced to an acceptable level by sealing holes in the No. 10 pump curb (Design Change Authorization 21075) in Room 113, and by installing floor drain covers (Design Change Authorization 20590) in rooms 115C and 0.

Design Basis Document DBD-ME-007, "Pipe Break Postulation Effects," has been revised to include back flooding through the drain system as a potential source of flood water.

Calculations of Unit 1 room flood levels have been completed, and walkdowns to determine interactions with essential equipment are underway.

This activity is being performed under Field Verification Method CPE-EB-FVM-SI-35, and is scheduled to be completed by September 15, 1988.

Necessary plant modifications identified from the results of the walkdowns will be completed prior to Unit 1 fuel load.
