,The device consists of a depleted uranium shield and polyurethane filler enclosed in a 1/8" (3.18 mm) steel housing constructed by
)
rolling a right circular cylinder, and arc welding two circular endpieces.
A zircaloy "S"
tube extends through the uranium shield.
At both ends is a lock box throuch which the source pigtail cable and male half of the quick 6s a connect-connect connector protrude (S-16).
The plunger type lock secures the source assembly against movement in the uranium shield "S"
tube.

The depleted uranium shield (approximately 340 lbs [154 kg]) is secured in place by two steel webs inside the steel cylinder.
]
The casting is coated with approximately la (2.54 cm) of asbestos amew.t for fire protection of the uranium shield in the event the e-,.d has c.6 be opened with a torch; the polyurethane filler acts as a cushion between the casting and the housing.
To provide ease of movement due to its heavy weight, two (2) 1-1/2" (3. 81 cm) lifting eyes are welded to the top of the device. 'The outside exterior dimensions are 16" (4 0. 64 cm) diameter by 12" (30.48 cm) high.
LABELING:
The device is labeled with appropriate DOT transportation labels; and in addition, a label with'the standard radiation caution symbol in color, specifies the isotope, activity, date of calibration, source serial number, and states " Danger, Do Not Handle, Radioactive Material, Notify Gamma Industries, Baton Rouge, Louisiana or Civil Authorities".

LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
Normally only one source is shipped to the licensee, the other
" source port" is used to place the licensee's depleted source for return.
Occasionally two sources will be shipped if the licensee has an additional device in which he can place the depleted source.
This' device is suitable for shipping sources for the following exposure devices:

In the case of the Radionics p-60-10-2, P-60-100-2 and Automation Industries Multitron Series, the source pigtail will protrude j
from the lock box of the Gammatron shipping container.
In these cases, an additional ball is positioned on the pigtail such that the source will be securely locked.
However this additional ball will in no way effect the operation or flexibility of H e pigtail i
once it is, put into service.
Also an extension tube is placed over the protruding end of the pigtail and screwed.to the lock box to protect the pigtail and connector during shipment.
SAFETY ANALYSIS
SUMMARY
The Model C-8 device is no longer manufactured or distributed by Gamma Industries, Inc. and Gamma Industries, Inc. is no longer in business.
Therefore, the registration certificate is being converted to an inactive registration certificate.
The device was originally approved for licensing purposei by the Louisiana Division of Radiation Control.
NRC attempted to obtain copies of all information submitted by the registrant in support of the evaluation.
However, NRC could not locate all the information.
Therefore, no safety evaluation of the device was performed as part of the conversion of the certificate to inactive status.
