i DESCRIPTION:

I These devices are designed to provide a fixed beam of radiation to be used'in a gamma-ray tomography system used for industrial inspection. The devices,' equipped with a spring-loaded air actuator, provide a means.for remote operation, and the depleted i uranium shield provides storage for the radiation source when not t is'use.

The.Model 1006A and 1006B devices are constructed using a

' depleted uranium shield, carbon steel' holding rings, and a 300 ,

series stainless steel cuter shell. The' shield is a two-part

depleted uranium casting. The stainless' steel outer shell is. -j comprised of . a 12X"' (32.39' cm) diameter by 16" (4 0. 64 - cm) tall ,

right. circular cylinder which contains the depleted uranium  :

e shielding, and an 8%" (21. 91 cm)- diameter by ' 14M" (36. 83 cm)

. tall right circular cylinder <which~ covers and protects the air l actuator and electronic solenoid'from. damage. The bottom l

-mounting flange may vary in configuration to allow customized ,

mounting: orientations,--but will in"all cases totally enclose.the shielding compartment. i

.The depleted uranium.-shield.(approximately 600.lbs (272.16 kg] )

is'made in two' pieces and is: secured within.the outer shell with a bolt'flangeland. carbon' steel positioning' angle supports and circumferencefrings.  !
