Dear Mr. Lamastra,
As per the request of Mr. Felsher on your behalf, the following information is provided to support our request dated June 25,1998.
1)
The definition of a Non-production Facility as defined in 10CFR50.2 is ".. facilities in which the only gccial nuclear materials contained in the irradiated material to be processed are uranium in the isotope U-235 and plutonium producod by the irraliation, if the material processed contains not more diat 104 grams of plutonium per gram of U 235."
Assuming a worst case scenario of 100% Pu-239 and a minimum enrichment of 2.5% U-235,50 Bq/gran U material would contain less than 104 grams of plutonium per gram of U-235.
2)
Personnel exposures resulting from an increase in the limit for transuranic isotopes from 3.3 By per gram of uranium to 50 Bq per gram of uranium would be insignificant froin both an individual and i
a collective dose viewpoint. This conclusion is based on; l) the small amount of transuranic i -
isotopes contained la the material (less than 1 ppm); 2) the small increase in specilic activity (less than 0.013 percent); and 3) the gamma ray energies associated with these isotopes at $hese concentrations.
