SUBJECT:
REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING GENERIC LETTER 96-06, OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION
Dear Mr Roche:
In your June 3,1997, submittal, you indicated that a total of seven piping penetrations were.
susceptible to thermally-induced over pressurization. You stated that four of the piping penetrations would be modified to add relief devices to eliminate overpressure conditions. You further indicated that piping stress calculations due to the thermal overpressure during the postulated temperature conditions would not exceed allowable stresses for the remaining three penetrations.
For the three piping penetrations in question, please provide the following information:
- 1. The applicable design criteria for the piping and isolation valves, and include the required load conditions.
- 2. A drawing of the piping run between the isolation valves. The drawinrs should include the length of the runs and thickness of the piping segments, and the thickness of the insulation.
- 3. The maximum calculated temperature and pressure for the pipe run. Describe, in detail, the method used to calculate these pressure and temperature values. The description should include a discussion of the heat transfer model used in the analysis and the basis for the heat transfer coefficients used in the analysis.
If you have question regarding this request, please call me on (301) 415-3041.
Sincerely, Original' signed by Ronald B. Eaton, Senior Project Manager 2O D
