Dear W. Stello:
In accordance with the Federal Energency Management Agency (FDM) rule 44 CFR 350, the State of Illinois submitted on January 9,1987, its State and associated local plans for radiological energencies related to the Braidwood
?belear Power Station to the Regional Director of FDM Region V for FDM review and approval.
A favorable interim finding for the State and local planning effort was issued by FBIA on April 21,1986.
m e Regional Director has evaluated the State's January 9,1987 sutnission and, in accordance with section 350.11 of the rule, transmitted his final evaluation to me on August 21, 1987. Contained in the Region V sutraittal was an evaluation of the joint exercises conducted on ?bvenber 6,1985, and thrch 18, 1987; and a report on the public meeting held on fiay 20, 1987, which explained the site-specific aspects of the State and local plans.
Based on an overall evaluation, I find and detemine that the State and local plans and preparedness for the Braidwood Nuclear Power Station are adequate to protect the health and safety of tce public in that there is reasonable assurance that the appropriate protective measures can be taken offsite in the event of a radiological energency. 'Ihe public alert and notification systen was approved by FD4A on August 5,1987.
If you have any questions, please contant Joan C. Hock, Chief, Division of Technological Hazards, 646-2860.
Since ly, rant C. Peterson Associate Director State and local Programs and Support
