Terminal Board in 7.5 KVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Units (CDR 85-00-21)
Dear Sir:
On December 26, 1985, we reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency, Reference (b), regarding resistor terminal board in 7.5 KVA UPS Units manufactured by Westinghouse, Buffalo Division. This deficiency has been evaluated and determined to be reportable under the provisions of 100FR50.55(e).
Description of Deficiency This deficiency is associated with an improper terminal board used in 7.5 KVA UPS Units. This terminal board is becoming discolored due to heat generated by the component which supports the board.
Three of four safety-related UPS units were identified as having the improper terminal boards.
Safety Implications The potential effect on the terminal boards would be embrittlement and
. deterioration due to heat. This could lead to a fault or circuit failure that would render equipment inoperable, 1
Corrective Action correct terminal boards have been provided and the replacement of terminal boards in the affected 7.5 KVA UPS Units has been completed.
