SMALL RELAY CABINET FIRE 1r

.. ~ On July 29, 1977, during daily surveillance testing of insert and retract i circuits for neutron detectors in the Source Range; Monitor'(SRM) and Intermediate Range Monitor (IRM) channel of nuclear instrumentation, evidence' of a fire that had self-extinguished was discovered in a relay cabinet. The relays affected are in SRM and IRM detector drive circuits and associated control rod drive interlock and annunciator circuits. -

The fire occurred sometime between discovery July 29, 1977, and successful completion of the previous surveillance test on July 28, 1977. No fire detection devices were activated during this time interval, and the actual time of the fire is unknown.

Unit No. 2 was in a shut down condition during this interval because of a scheduled refueling outage. Unit No. 3 was shut down at 5:30 a.m.

July 29, 1977, for maintenance.
