- "i.- l At 1:00 p.m., July 25, 1977, a. Primary Water Storage Tank overflowed during l i a filling operation and dumped 9000 gallons of slightly radioactive water onto the ground. The water contained Tritium at a concentration of 1.1x10-)
microcuries per milliter. No other radioactive materials were present. A portion of this water (quantity unknown) flowed to the Ohio River via a .
storri drain. The remaining water settled into the ground underneath the tant. l Samples of river water taken downstream of the storm drain were analyzed and l
, showed a tritium concentration of 2x10-5 microcuries per milliter, which is !
below the 10 CFR.Part 20 effluent release limit of 3x10-3 microcuries per milliter for tritium to unrestricted areas.
, This unplanned release was caused by a valving error during the tank filling operations.
