Dear Mr. Murley:
i Section 4.2.4.3 of'the NRC's Safety Evaluation Report (SER),
f NUREG-0991,.for Limerick Generating Station (LGS) states that rcutine visual inspection of representative (usually discharg.d) fuel will be performed in connection with each refueling outage.
We wish to advise you of our Intent to coroly with Section j
4.2.4.3 by using the General Electric (GE) Post-Irradiation Fuel Survel11ance Program. As you are. aware, GE has accepted responsibility for post-irradiation surveillance of GE designed and manufactured fuel assat11os and has provided the NRC with a full-description and evaluation of its surveillance progran in Reference 1, 2, and 3.
The GE program has been found acceptable as stated in reference 4.
Philadelphia Electric Ccrmany has previously notified your staff, by reference 5, of our Intent to utilize this program at LGS for Unit 1.
The specific Safety Evaluation Report for LGS-1 was l
Issued as references 6 and 7.
Since only fuel designed and manufactured by GE is currently scheduled for use in Limerick Unit 2, it is also our intent to participate in the GE Post-Irradiation Fuel Surveillance Program and to utilize this program to camly with SER Section 4.2.4.3 for LGS-2.
If you have any questions or require further InforTnation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
$/Cf l
