FAILURE OF REACTOR COOLANT PUMP SEAL CAUSES UNPLA SHUTDOWN The unit was shutdown from approximately 1 percent power at 3:15 a.m.,
July 2, 1977, due to a reactor coolant pump seal failure.
40,000 gallons of reactor' coolant system water was leaked over a periodApproxim of 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> into conta'inment via the failed seal while the unit was being placed in the cold shutdown condition.
The water was pumped out and decontamination work inside containment will commence today.
The shutdown is expected to last at least three weeks for
