REQUEST FOR CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION OF NRC INSPECTION PROGRAM A Palatine, Illinois, environmental group has written Senator Adlai Stevenson III (Dem.,' Illinois) asking for an investigation into the NRC inspection and monitoring program as a result of the NRC's failure to detect promptly releases of radioactive tritium by the Zion Nuclear Power Station..As reported in PNO-77-92, May 25, 1977, low levels of tritium in water from the plant secondary system were released through an unmonitored pathway via the fire sump to the plant discharge. The unmonitored discharge was identified during a routine health physics l
inspection by the Region III (Chicago) staff.
