SMALL FIRE IN RELAY CABINET Following logic testing at 11:00 a.m. on April 18, 1977, a small fire of less than one minute duration was extinguished in a relay cabinet in the cable spreading room using a hand held CO2 extinguicher. Preliminary l information indicates that a relay malfunctioned. The automatic fire l

extinguishing system did not reach the actuation point. Three relays were damaged and several others subjected to smoke damage. Relays involved included drywell torus vent valve, shutdown cooling, RHR pump trip, and cleanup system flow monitoring. The reactor was operating at 300 MW. A shutdown is in progress to permit replacement of relays.

Media interest is not expected. The State of Pennsylvania has been informed. A press release is not planned.
