Subject: . Inspection No. 50-322/85-43
This letter refers to the routine resident safety inspection conducted by
Mr. J. Berry December 1 - 31, 1985 at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station,
Wading River,- New York. The inspection consisted of observations of activities,
interviews with personnel and document reviews. .The results of the inspection
are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report enclosed with this letter
and were discussed with members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspec-
tion. Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were-observed.
The enclosed report discusses several events that occurred during this and
previous reporting periods as a result of personnel related activities. Our
Senior Resident Inspector met with your staff on December 20, 1985 and dis-

cussed the events and your proposed actions. These actions were subsequently
reviewed with you and members of NRC Region I management on January 28, 1986.
Your review of these events appeared to be comprehensive and your proposed
future actions appropriate. The details of the meeting.will be discussed in a
future inspection report and the effectiveness of your proposed actions will
-be monitored during subsequent inspections.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a),
a copy of this letter and the enclosures will be plac~ed in the NRC Public
Document Room.
