OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION.

TECHNICAL REPORT ON UNIT 3 CONTAINMENT BUILDING TENDON SURVEILLANCE

SUMMARY

+

l Conrainment Building Tendon Surveillance was performed on Oconee Unit 3

,during the_ period' July, 1977 through. July, 1980 in accordance with Technical i

Specification 4.4.2..This was the second inspection for the unit.and 'all 7 tendons -inspected have' remained in excellent condition.

DISCUSSION

.Nine' surveillance tendons were inspected for ancho' rage condition and ten-i sioning-force, and of these,;one tendon in each surveillance group was de-tensioned for wire condition inspection and removal of one wire for destructive -

examination. These1 tendons were then re-stressed to. initial stressing requirements.

'1)-

.All tendons and components remain in excellent condition. Grease coverage

-of components was satisfactory. A slight. amount 1of water was found in the grease cap of the shop end of tendon 13H9, with no intrusion of the water into.the grease coverage.' ik) change in grease color'ing or condition-was noted. No significant change in corrosion levels of wires or components

' was found.

2)

-Lift-off forces remain within the acceptable range for all tendons. The force-time trends are not included in this report as they have been

. addressed in the subsequent third inspection which has already been per-formed.

c 3) tTensile testing' performed on wire samples removed from the designated tendons showed that all wires' continue to meet'the requirements of ASTM

.A421 to which the tendons were r.anufactured.

CONCLUSION-Based on the results of this surveillance', the Unit.3 containment Building

' post-tensioning system is in satisfactory condition and.is capable of con-Jtinuing to. perform its intended function. This conclusion has'been further strengthened by the subsequent thf rd tendon' inspection completed prior.to the generation of. this report. Further information, if required, may be obtained from the actual surveillance procedure, PT/3/A/150/14, completed July 31, 1980.

N' umbers in parentheses are the number of wires remaining NOTES:

1.

at retensioning.

2.

With the exception of 53H10, all values are the average of the values obtained at each end of the tendon.

3.

For 53H10 first inspection, the lift-off is for the shop-end only due to interference.

4.

Double' entries are, respectively, the as found and as left

. values for retensioned tendons.

5.

Lift-off forces were computed from ram area. No calibration data on rams is available.
