Dear Mr. Fay:
SUBJECT:
ASME SECTION XI RELIEF REQUEST - REACTOR COOLANT PUMP. CASINGS (TACS 67083 AND 67084)
By letter dated January 25, 1988, as supplemented by letter dated May 31 1988,
, you subnitced a relief request from the examination requirements of Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code for the reactor coolant pump casing welds at Point Beach I and 2.
The requested relief is granted. The basis for granting of the relief is discussed in the enclosed Safety Evaluation.
Based on our review, we have determined that the testing for which the relief was requested and approved is impractical to perform and that pursuant to 50.55a(g)(6)(i) the granting of this relief is authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security and is otherwise in the public interest.
In making this determination, we have given due consideration to the burden that could result if these requirements were imposed on your facilities.
If you have any questions concerning this relief, please contact us.
Sincerely
~
