50-296 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 - ANALYSES OF A SPIKED SAMPLE FOR NRC CONFIRMATORY MEASURES PROGRAM As part of the NRC confirmatory measures program, a sample spiked with radionuclides was sent to BFN to be analyzed. The sample was analyzed for strontium-89 (Sr-89), Strontium-90 (Sr-90), and Iron-55 (Fe-55) by the Power Operations Training Center (POTC) Laboratory, and for Tritium (11-3) by the BFN Radiochemistry Laboratory. The result of our analyses of the sample sent to BFN is as follows:

Sr-89 uCL/ml Sr-90 uCi/ml Fe-55 uCi/ml M-3 1.77E-5 1 0.06 E-5 uCL/ml The above data was decay corrected to May 12, 1988.

• The POTC Quality Control Program identified inconsistencies during the analyses; therefore, the results of the strontium-89, strontium-90, and iron-55 analyses are unavailable. TVA notified J. Kahle, Chief of Radiological Effluents and Chemistry Section, of the POTC results in a telephone conversation on July 14, 1988.

At that time, he acknowledged TVA's request for another sampic and agrood to send TVA a sample for retesting.
