SUBJECT:

NRC BULLETIN 87-01, "THINNING 0F PIPE WALLS AT NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS" On July 9, 1987, NRC Bulletin 87-01 was issued requesting that licensees for nuclear power plants holding an operating license or a construction pemit submit infomation concerning their programs for monitoring the thickness of pipe walls in high-energy single. phase and two-phase carbon steel piping systems.

Portland General Electric Company responded to the Bulletin by letter cated September 18, 1987.

The inforriation you provided is being used to determine the extent of industry participation and implementation of erosion / corrosion inspection programs and to obtain data on observed pipe wall thinning. While the staff has reviewed your response in that context, no further plant. specific action with respect to the Bulletin is required at this time.
