The source consists of an sluminum-clad cobalt slug enclosed in a type 316 stainless steel capsule 1-11/16" (42. 9 mm) long and 0.445" (11.3 mm) in diameter. Wall thickness is 25 mils (0.00064 mm). One end has 7/16" - 20 threads 1/4" (6.4 mm) long.

The other end has a 3/32 hex socket at its center. The capsule is sealed by a continuous circumferential heliarc weld at each end.

SUMMARY

As of the effective date of this document, the Model A-217 Gamma Source is no longer manufactured and distributed by Cumberland Research Corporation. Cumberland Research Corporation's materials license expired July 31, 1977 and the company is no longer in business.

This source was approved for licensing purposes by the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) on January 14, 1969. There is insufficient information on file for this device to perform a safety evaluation. Therefore, this certificate is being reissued without further review based on the original review and approval issued by AEC.
