Dear Dr. Grace:
NRC Bulletin No. 88-01, "Defects in Westinghouse Circuit Breakers," dated February 5,1988 requested that licensees using Westin house DS series circuit breakers in Class lE service, perform and document inspection o the welds on the pole shaf ts and inspection of the alignment in the breaker closing mechanism. The bulletin required licensees who do not have Westinghouse DS series circuit breakers in Class IE service to provide a letter to the NRC stating this fact within 60 days of receipt of the bulletin.
Carolina Power & Lioht Company has determined that Westinghouse DS series circuit breakers are not use8in Class IE systems at Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. I and 2.
