ATTN: Mr. S. A. White  :

Senior Vice President, Nuclear Power 6N 38A Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801 -

Gentlemen:  !

SUBJECT:

EXTENSIONS OF TIME FOR TVA RESPONSES TO NRC  :

i In the recent past, there were an inordinate number of TVA requests  !

to revise previously established commitment dates to NRC for supplemental l responses and to extend the time for initial response to Notices of Violation.

As recent examples, a supplemental response commitment date was extended about <

14 days for NRC Report 87-30 and three initial responses (NRC Reports 88-07,  !

88-09 and 88-19) were extended from 4 to 14 days.  ;

The reason given for needing these extensions was the time required in corporate review and concurrence due to management involvement with recent  !

operational issues at Sequoyah-2.

(

We are calling this to your attention for corrective action because we are concerned that this unfavorable trend will continue and lead to untimely l-resolution of issues by TVA management. We will continue to track your j performance in this area. You are requested to identify to us within 30 days  :

what actions you plan to reverse this trend.

{

Sincerely, [
