4 Introduction A meeting was held at the reouest of Nuclear Assurance Corporation (NAC)

at Rockville, Maryland, on January 19, 1988, concerning the design of a new legal weight truck cask.

Sep+ ember 4, 1987 (R. H. Odegaarden).

NAC showed to NRC staff a model of a new valve box seal design (gland type seal) utilizing double 0-rings with a test port between the seals.

The cask is expected to have one vent line and one drain line. The test port between the double lid 0-ring seals, will be sealed with a recessed pipe plug.

The quality assurance section of the application will reference the existilig NAC quality assurance program.

The contents are expected to include the following:

One PWR fuel assembly, max 3.7 w/o U-235 enriched.

Two BWR fuel assemblies, max 4.0 w/o U-235 enriched.

Natural uranium metallic fuel rods.

The shielding analysis specifically will include the dose rate contributed by the Co.60 in the end fittings (the PWR assembly was found to be the worst case).

A model of the cask will be drop tested at Oak Ridge in mid-April 1988. The following drops will be conducted:
